As an athlete, I embrace the fact that I am a role model for today’s youth. Whether it is stressing the importance of education and encouraging a love for reading, teaching about nutrition and how to live a healthy lifestyle, or working on a local and global level to help eradicate malaria, I am constantly trying to use the platform basketball has given me to positively influence as many lives as possible.
Fran Harris traveled to over 30 countries, played professional basketball in Italy and Switzerland, and has endured her own share of highlights and lowlights including being on NCAA (University of Texas at Austin) and WNBA Championship (Houston Comets) teams to losing her mother at age 16 -- experiences for which she is profoundly grateful.
Becky has emerged on the Women's National Basketball Association scene as one of the top players in the league, and was named to the All-WNBA Second Team in 2005 and 2006 as a member of the New York Liberty.

On April 4, 2007 she was drafted by the Seattle Storm in the WNBA draft. In her rookie season she has been quoted as being one of the best pure shooters of the game. Many have compared her to other Indiana greats such as Larry Bird and Katie Douglas. Upon her return to Indiana to verse the Indiana Fever on June 13,2007 Beech Grove honored Gearlds for her achievements and representation of their city.
